A collection of stories by Gray Clapham

I've been writing stories since I was a small boy. When I was seven-years-old I wrote my first book. At school I gave up on Mathematics and concentrated on English and Art. I left school at 16 and studied journalism at the Wellington Polytechnic in 1971, starting my career as a reporter with the Gisborne Herald in 1972. I went on to write creative radio advertisements for a while but gravitated back into reporting the news for radio, television, newspapers and magazines for the next 40 years. I travelled, not widely, but around Australia and the Pacific. For two years I was the editor of the Port Douglas Times in North Queensland and for 12 years I worked as the Pacific Region news editor for the Cook Islands News. I wrote for New Zealand Adventure magazine through the 1990s and had stories published elsewhere as a freelancer. At one time I published my own magazine, Beachlife, from which many of the stories on this site have been taken. It's only now, with hindsight, that I realise many of the stories I have written about people and places have potential historical value and are worth compiling into some sort of archive. In this way I hope they can be read again by those who are interested, and preserved for those who find them of interest in the future.

Please note: For the record, AI has not been used in any way in the presentation of these stories.

I still have the book I wrote and bound when I was seven-years-old; a Mark Twain-inspired adventure story.
